A little bit about my teaching perspective:
My training in piano is of the classical western tradition, and this is generally my approach to teaching. With beginners, emphasis is on sitting position, posture, hand position, and just getting to know the piano as an instrument. I use method books for beginning-intermediate students (usually Faber or Alfred), with incorporation of music theory and literature as well. Intermediate to advanced students will gradually transition from method books into repertoire books. My main goal in teaching is to ultimately have the student be able to apply what he/she has learned to any piece on his/her own. Every lesson is taught to each individual student's abilities and personality. Though discipline and motivation is needed for improvement, I try to make piano lessons an enjoyable and challenging learning experience for the student.
I'm open to teaching all ages, but have the most experience with K-12 students and college-age adults who would like to continue learning piano as a side activity or interest to their main studies.
